Study of the Cylinder Deactivation on Tribological Parameters and Emissions in an Internal Combustion Engine

In the present investigation, a study is carried out using numerical simulation on effects of cylinder deactivation tribological parameters and emissions in an internal combustion engine. For development research, model was used to predict characteristics lubrication film, friction conditions, blow-by gas, deformation piston rings. Additionally, construction CFD describe kinematic movement engine piston. The analysis results allowed for demonstration active cylinders presenting increase 21.53% 7.65% pressure temperature wall. reduction 11.33% minimum thickness film force due asperities, which implies 33% power losses friction. implementation technologies such as causes gas leaks caused by cylinders. However, use this technology allows reducing 9.09%, 8.26%, 7.41% CO, HC, NO emissions. Although significant fuel savings, it necessary consider negative technology, loss greatest frictional forces.
